Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
Name of journal
The 'Journal of Horticultural Sciences' is the only journal being published by the Society for Promotion of Horticulture, Bengaluru since 2006.

The journal is published in issues every year and is in publication since 2006.

Editorial Board
The journal has an editorial board and an elected governing body of the Society for Promotion of Horticulture which publishes the journal. All the members of the board and the governing body are recognized experts in the field. The full names, affiliations as well as a contact of all the members are being provided on the journal’s website and also on the society’s website.
No Article processing charges (APCs)/No Publication fees
There are no publication or article processing charges. The journal is free to read, submit and publish.
Authors and Authors responsibilities
Authors are obliged to participate in the peer-review process. All authors should state while submitting manuscripts that they have significantly contributed to the research and the research is not published previously in any journal. Authors should also intimate to the editor if any preprint version is deposited. All authors are obliged to provide retractions, corrections of mistakes, a list of references, financial support etc.
The authors should be following CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) for describing roles of each contributor’s specific contribution to the scholarly output.
Blind Review Process
All of a journal’s content is subjected to blind peer-review from experts in the relevant fields. Upon ascertaining the suitability of the submitted manuscript as per the scope and subject matter of the journal by the Editor-in-Chief in consultation with the Associate Editors/Section Editors/Editorial Board, the articles are sent to two or three expert reviewers. The decision of acceptance or rejection of the manuscript is taken after taking into account the reviewer's comments and the editorial board consultation. Reviewers are asked to provide a statement of no conflict of interest. Reviewers should be pointing out relevant published work which is not yet cited.
Publication ethics
The editors shall take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred. In no case shall a journal or its editors encourage such misconduct, or knowingly allow such misconduct to take place. In the event that a journal’s editors are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct, the editor shall deal with allegations appropriately. The journal’s editorial board takes appropriate means and measures to retract or correct articles when needed. The submissions are checked for plagiarism with the plagiarism detection software (Turnitin). The publishers and editors should be willing to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when needed.
Authors are encouraged to post their manuscripts to preprint servers and should mention this in their cover letter to the editor. Reviewers are also encouraged to publish a peer review statement after the article is published, without disclosing the journal's name or the recommendation for publication.
CRediT Authorship Contribution Statement
In order to recognize the specific contributions made by individual authors and reduce conflicts related to authorship, it is recommended that authors utilize the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT) system, which facilitates collaboration and provides transparency in the research process.
Conflict of Interest
The Editorial Board Members, Reviewers, Authors are required to submit Conflict of Interest (COI). The COI satements will be published on the journal website or added to the published mansucripts as case may be.
Acknowledgments
Authors should include an acknowledgments section in their manuscript to recognize and express gratitude towards individuals, organizations, or institutions that have provided support, advice, or assistance during the research or writing process.
Prior Publication Policy
Publication in the form of an abstract, thesis, or preprint is not considered as prior publication. Authors are encouraged to share their submitted versions (preprints), accepted versions (postprint), and/or published versions (publisher versions) freely under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
Copyright and Access
The authors hold the copyright of the articles published and are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). The journal issue and individual articles are available to readers immediately upon publication free of charge to read, download and share. Authors are encouraged to share their submitted versions (preprints), accepted versions (postprint), and/or published versions (publisher versions) freely under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
Archiving
The journal uses PKP’s Open Journal Systems (OJS) and has joined PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN). See https://jhs.iihr.res.in/index.php/jhs/gateway/lockss. As the OJS has an OAI-PMH protocol, the contents licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 can be harvested by any harvester. The journal is hosted on the host institute’s webserver for the preservation of the journal content and is available publicly.

Ownership and management
The journal is published by the Society for Promotion of Horticulture, Bengaluru, and is hosted at the ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru 560089, Karnataka, India. The journal is managed by the independent editorial board delegated by the executive committee of the society.

Revenue sources
The society receives revenue from membership fees, subscriptions, institutional support, and organizational support. The society also generates revenue from the balance amount after expenses from the conferences and other events as and when it organizes.

Any person or entity who has interests in the promotion of horticulture and agrees with the society's objectives (https://sph.iihr.res.in/about_us.php) may join as a member of the Society for Promotion of Horticulture. Authors need not be a member to submit articles.

Process for identification of and dealing with allegations of research misconduct
Publishers and editors shall take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, including plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data falsification/fabrication, among others. In no case shall a journal or its editors encourage such misconduct, or knowingly allow such misconduct to take place. In the event that a journal’s publisher or editors are made aware of any allegation of research misconduct relating to a published article in their journal, the publisher or editor shall follow COPE’s guidelines (or equivalent) in dealing with allegations.
Direct marketing
The society occasionally sends emails to the conference attendees or organizes/conducts presentations at the universities/institutes for the newly recruited researchers or students of horticulture about the society and its journal for soliciting memberships and manuscripts.
